Panasonic signals its commitment to its flagship compact system camera, the LUMIX GH5, through releasing a version 1.1 firmware update.
So what does the firmware update bring to the table? Well, it’s good news for those that shoot full HD videos using the GH5.
In addition to some minor bug fixes, firmware 1.1 enables 4:2:2 10-bit internal video recording in full HD (16:9 MP4 and MOV) and anamorphic (4:3) modes, in addition to 4k video recording modes. Previously, it was only possible to record HD videos in 4:2:0 8-bit.
It is good to see improvements to the HD video recording modes of the GH5. The camera’s 4k video recording mode will receive improvements through a further firmware update later this year too.
Two minor bugs addressed in V1.1 are:
• A problem in which the exposure adjustment did not operate properly during live view standby under specific condition in using [Variable Frame Rate].
• A problem in which afterimages appeared when recording video under high ISO sensitivity settings in using V-LogL
The LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH POWER O.I.S lens (and breathe) also receives a firmware update, version 1.3, which adds the Dual Image Stabilisation (IS) function, being compatible with all the current Panasonic G-Series compact system cameras.
The firmware update for the GH5 is available via the following link on the Panasonic website where more information about the video recording updates can be found.
