Joining Zeiss’s internationally renowned lineup of premium lenses, the Zeiss Milvus 1.4/25 is a fast prime promising edge-to-edge sharpness and premium quality.
Its wide angle of 25mm makes it ideal for landscapes and architecture, while the maximum aperture available is f/1.4.
According to Zeiss, this lens is “completely redesigned”, with consistently strong performance across the board. The firm promises that the lens will deliver outstanding results even when it’s at its widest aperture setting, making it a solid choice for low-light shooting.
Zeiss’s T* anti-reflective coating is present and correct, while there are also light traps in the mechanical components and integrated special surfaces to further prevent reflection. Zeiss claims the system is so advanced it’s “future-proof”, and the minimisation of coma, astigmatism and spherical aberrations renders the lens suitable for high-resolution work.
The ergonomics of the lens have been designed to make manual focusing intuitive and smooth, supported by the engraving in metres and feet and the focus scale. The lens also boasts silent, continuous aperture setting (de-clicked in the Nikon version) and a long focusing range, making it well-suited for video. A Floating Elements design allows for constantly high imaging performance along the focal plane, from minimum distance to infinity.
Zeiss has made the lens durable as well, with an all-metal housing that it promises will make every adjustment a “haptic experience”.
It’s sealed against dust and splashes, making it suitable for shooting in tough environments.
